Only one month has passed after air traffic controllers held a strike action in Italy. Now they are planning to join the national transport strike for 4 hours on 8th of June.
Multiple aviation industry workers decided to hold a strike between 13:00 and 17:00 (local time). Ground staff at Bolognia Guglielmo Marconi International Airport, air traffic controllers and cabin crews at Blue Panorama Airlines and Air Italy will take part nationwide. Travellers who are flying to or from Italy can expect flight delays and cancellations.
National transport strike will definitely affect air passengers who will try to get to the airport. Railways and local transportation personnel will also join the strike. Railways workers plan to strike for 8 hours and the local transportation employees will be striking for 4 hours. Travellers, who are planning to reach airports in Italy should check their routes and possibilities to get there on time.
Unfortunately, air passengers will not be compensated for these flight disruptions. According to EC 261/2004 Regulation strikes are considered as “extraordinary circumstances”.
“A number of strikes are increasing every year. Unfortunately, passengers usually have their flights delayed or even cancelled because of the strike actions. But even during this kind of flight disruptions passengers have their rights. Carriers need to take care of their customers according to the EC 261/2004 regulation,” comments Marius Stonkus, the CEO of flight compensation company Skycop.
