Compensation Eligibility: When Can You Claim?
You may be entitled to compensation if your Ethiopian Airlines flight departing from the UK was delayed by more than three hours, cancelled less than 14 days before departure, or if you were denied boarding due to overbooking. These rights apply only when the disruption was within the airline’s control and the journey started in the UK.
However, not all disruptions qualify for compensation. Situations caused by extraordinary circumstances are generally excluded. These can include:
- Severe weather conditions (such as strong winds, heavy snow, or storms)
- Strikes by airport or security staff (unless organised by the airline’s own employees)
- Air traffic control delays (including congestion or technical issues)
- Political instability or security risks
- Natural disasters (such as earthquakes or volcanic activity)
If your flight was affected by any of the above, you may still be entitled to care and re-routing, but compensation for denied boarding or delays may not apply.
Still unsure whether your case qualifies? Delays and cancellations can be complex, and small details can make a difference. You can use Skycop to check your eligibility quickly and avoid missing a potential claim.
