How to get the best Black Friday travel deals

Americans have this thing called “Thanksgiving.” Nobody knows what it’s about, but it’s immediately followed by Black Friday. Called so due to the black flags raised in memory of all the shoppers trampled during sales, it offers the biggest bargains of the year. And here’s how to get the best Black Friday travel deal!

Install the right apps

We’re written about apps before. So naturally, there are those that will help you find the best Black Friday deals as well. Kayak, Google Travel, Hopper and many more will bury you under push notifications come November 29. Be ready and have your account prepped!

Sign up for emails

The internet is brimming with blogs and websites that are about those deals. They’re easy to find, featuring very unsubtle like “Travel Discount Blog” or “’s Cheap Travels.” Many of these have mailing lists and you can be sure they’ll be updating you with the best deals out there. After all, it’s better to have someone else do the work for you, especially if you’re interested in just traveling (as opposed to going somewhere specific).

Check social media

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are all good social media platforms to make yourself miserable early in the morning. They also host a massive company presence, which means that they’ll be proclaiming their deals loudly and proudly. So funnel all those corporate accounts into some group and filter and just scroll those deals, coupons and discount codes once Black Friday comes. Actually, data shows that many more deals are announced on Thanksgiving (the day before Black Friday) than on the actual Friday.

Get up early

Better yet, don’t go to sleep altogether. Early bird gets the worm, but as a nocturnal predator, you can get something meatier. After all, the deals aren’t endless and you can only stuff so many people into a Boeing 737 before running into overbooking. Starting your searches at midnight will help you get a leg up in the race for the deal. Sure, some deals run through the entire weekend, but the juiciest ones probably there on Friday and Saturday. You may also hold out hope for Cyber Monday as well.

Stock up on bookmarks

Do you have some idea of where you want to and/or possibly your preferred vendor? If so, be prepared and bookmark the exact spots on the website where the deal is applied to your favorite destination. You may also want to have an account created and financial data entered to just blaze through the process and leave other buyers in the dust.

Hold your ground till Travel Tuesday

Some call this day “Travel Deal Tuesday,” though the non-sociopathic among us will just shorten it to Travel Tuesday. That day is more than just proof that the consumerist fervor of Black Friday is infecting more and more days with silly names. It’s actually the day when most travel deals are announced, at least by data collected by Hopper app. Travel Tuesday is there because, at least in the US, travel demand drops after Thanksgiving. In fact, this is the best day to buy tickets for travel outside of the Christmas period, possibly even early into the next year. To capitalize on the funds these people saved by not buying discounted plasma TVs or neodymium egg whisk or whatever, the airlines go on sale on Travel Tuesday. That’s December 3 in 2019.
