Christmas is coming! Not yet here, but it’s coming. The season is also one of the busiest times of the year for airports. Naturally, the airport staff isn’t against spreading some Christmas cheer in their workplace. So here’s a list of airports that had gone all-in with Christmas decorations.
Heathrow Airport, UK
Being the biggest, most important airport in the UK, Heathrow has to put up quite the Christmas show, if only to avoid any comparisons to Dickens.
In 2024, the Heathrow Bears campaign once again melted hearts with a nostalgic story of family reunion.
They also went all out and made a gingerbread replica of Heathrow. Well, a gingerbread scale model, anyways – a 1:1 model would be huge. The 50kg confection was made in cooperation with the Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown. We’re all waiting to see what 2025 brings, Heathrow never disappoints.

Munich Airport, Germany
If there’s one thing to know about Germans, it’s that they love Christmas. When the season comes, the country is positively flooded with Christmas markets. Munich Airport takes it a step further and arranges one on the premises.
Christmas Markets have been turning up in the airport for 20 years now. Besides the usual Christmas shopping (probably not duty-free), the air travelers and onlookers had various events to participate in.
In 2024, it featured over 40 stalls, an ice-skating rink, mulled wine, and live music.
Vancouver International Airport, Canada
While a large Christmas tree and a city’s worth of Christmas lights are good for setting the mood, few things match the spirit of the season as giving. That’s why Vancouver International Airport will be organizing the Holiday Hamper Drive for the 10th year in a row.
The airport, in cooperation with Quest Food Exchange, encourages people to bring in bags with foodstuffs suitable for a Christmas table. The list is fairly strict and includes things like canned soup, instant mashed potatoes, chocolate, and cookies. Last year, they collected over 1,656 hampers to deliver to families in need.
They proving that festive spirit isn’t just lights and tinsel.
Vienna Airport, Austria
Vienna is a city that’s brimming with Christmas cheers and Christmas markets! Vienna Airport followed suit. Vienna Airport turns into a true Winter Wonderland each year.
This meant opening their own Christmas market at the airport, decorating walls with a winter design created by Austrian artists, as well as creating a free gift-wrapping station.
But that’s not all! In 2024, Vienna Airport also operated a mistletoe kiss station, a decorated photo wall and a Christmas tree covered in Swarovski creations.
Their elegant touch reflects the city’s festive spirit perfectly.
Changi Airport, Singapore
Changi is in a festive league of its own.
In 2024, the airport launched a massive Hello Kitty & Friends Carnival with themed rides, festive light shows at Jewel’s Rain Vortex, and experienced snowfall sessions that turned the heart of Singapore into a winter wonderland.
The centrepiece was a stunning 16-metre Ralph Lauren Christmas tree, an instant photo favourite.
In previous years, they’ve hosted Harry Potter and Disney-themed wonderlands.
