9 Food And Music Events In Baltic Countries You Must See This Autumn

Autumn is the season when all the harvest that wasn’t trampled by influencers taking pictures in the fields is brought in. There’s probably some singing involved. So why not enjoy the best of autumn music and food events in the Baltics?

International Early Music Festival “Orient et Occident”

10 – 13 October, Tartu, Estonia

This festival in Tartu invites you to party like it’s 1319. That’s right, it’s a Medieval music festival. But that’s not all: as the title “Orient et Occident” implies, it explores the connections of the European music of the era to that from Arabian countries – and places even further east. This is a multidisciplinary event, so expect more than music there. Me, I’d be hoping for a meat pie.

International Jazz and Rhythm Music Festival ‘IdeeJazz’ 2019

07 – 09 November, Tartu, Estonia

Jazz? In Estonia? It’s more likely than you would imagine. IdeeJazz seems to be quite young as jazz events go, but this festival in Tartu (sometimes in Narva) will provide a real musical experience. Expect to hear mainstream and chamber jazz as well as ethnic and world music!

New Music Festival ARENA 2019

19 October – 02 November, Riga, Latvia

ARENA has been going since 2002. Its slogan is “HEAR THE FUTURE!” and so you shall do, as it attracts musicians from around the world. You may see a giant musical dream catcher or some singing vegetables. The important thing is to be new and fresh – though if you find speaking vegetables in your own kitchen…

International Contemporary Music Festival GAIDA

04 – 19 October, Vilnius, Lithuania

“Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe” (EFFE) has declared GAIDA to be among 24 best festivals in Europe – and it’s the only event in the Baltic countries to make the cut. Most of the events shall take place at the National Gallery of Art and woo you with the best contemporary music can offer.

Vilnius Mama Jazz

13 – 17 November, Vilnius, Lithuania

Do you want jazz? Because Lithuania has jazz! Vilnius Mama Jazz is one of the biggest jazz festivals in the country, attracting talents both local and foreign. You want to see some up and coming acts in the Baltics? Then you best get yourself to Vilnius Mama Jazz

Of course, listening to all this great music can be a draining experience. After all, who can take in so many good tunes without getting exhausted? Well, let your ears have some rest and put those taste buds to work by visiting some of the best food events in the Baltics!

Black Food Festival in Tallinn

23 November, Tallinn, Estonia

The Black Food Festival is coming to Estonia for the first time this year. It was a smash hit in London, New York and Berlin, and it’s going to rock your socks off in Tallinn. Do some delightful culinary experimentation at the Põhjala factory and celebrate one of the longest nights of the year with some quality meals.

Tallinn Restaurant Week

01 – 07 November, Tallinn, Estonia

If you need to keep a wealthy dowager staying in the Estonian capital entertained for a week, you’re in luck! Tallinn Restaurant week is coming! This will allow you to visit a bunch of the finest restaurants around and dine on a dime!

Autumn Riga Restaurant week

07 – 13 October, Riga, Latvia

Get some eating going to Riga! This week is dedicated to the best restaurants in the Latvian country plying you with their best meals at very reasonable prices. You’ll have an entire week to sample three-course-meals for about €15-€20 a pop – that’s a steal (and you’re the burglar).

Pärnu Café Week

05 – 13 October, Pärnu, Estonia

Sure, anyone can go to Tallinn. But are you a bad enough dude/dudette to go to Pärnu? The city built its Café Week to synergize with the Restaurant Week. Again, you’ll be offered (light) meals at reasonable prices. The speciality seems to be a salad, dessert and cup of coffee/tea combo.
