Italy is that one strange boot-shaped place that spawned the Roman Empire a long time ago. Spain is that place that was conquered by the Roman empire and was so angry about it, it made poking angry bulls a sport. So why not visit these lands of grapes and grape products in autumn? Here are some events that Skycop suggests you should visit in October.

Italy

The Feast of Santa Reparata

On Monday 8th, the citizens of Florence observe the Feast of Santa Reparata. Saint Reparata is a possibly mythical Catholic saint and martyr which is said to have interceded when Ostrogoths besieged the city in 406 AD. These days, the Medieval celebration is commemorated with a parade, possibly a race, while tourists and guests get the option to visit crypts that date back to the Roman times.

Chestnut Festival

La Castagna in Festa is what people in Monte Amiata take part in in the last week of October. Yep, it’s a chestnut fest, dedicated to this most mysterious (and most enticing to throw at people) of… things that fall off a tree. In Amiata, the chestnuts are so good, they gained the coveted IGP status, only earned by the best Italian produce.

There will be dancing, there will be singing, acting, reenacting, fashion shows, antique markets… as well as chestnut beer, chestnut bread and other foodstuffs that can be made out of chestnut.

Ibla Busker’s Festival

This festival – going from Thursday the 4th to Sunday the 7th – is kinda crazy. For the 24th time, artists from all over the world are flocking to the baroque citadel of Ragusa Ibla. This is the major cultural event of Southern Italy, with about 60,000 visitors every year. The goal of the event is to not only show the performance skills of the artists involved but to also present the ancient history of Ragusa Ibla and the surrounding area.

Spain

Fiesta Nacional de España

The National day of Spain is celebrated on the 12th of October – the day that Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. There’s really no wrong spot to be at during the day, as the whole country celebrates. However, the traditional military parade happens in Madrid – you might even get to see the king of Spain!

Es Cubells Festival

If you want to go Island hopping, go to Ibiza on 15 of October (Monday, as it happens). On this day, Es Cubells celebrates the day of its patron saint and, reportedly, the liberation of Ibiza. Expect singing, dancing, historical sights, and local food!

The Procession of the Blessed

Mallorca will never let itself be outdone by Ibiza. In the third week of October, it will celebrate the annual Procession of the Blessed. To commemorate Saint Catherina Thomas, there will be a sermon at the Santa Magdalena church, followed by a float parade, dancing, singing, fireworks, recreated battle scenes and more.

Now, in case you miss any of these celebrations because of flight delays, cancellations or overbooking and if you’re looking for more unique destinations to explore, check out famous movie filming locations around the world know that you might be entitled to flight compensation of up to €600!
