European travel destinations where recent restrictions are less likely to return very soon
Summer holiday season is already here and some of us even already got a glimpse of what it’s like travelling in the good old Europe these days. But if you are still about to make a decision on where to go for an European summer trip, we selected a few places which tend to be safe enough. That’s if you are still afraid – and, in fact, who aren’t – that the new wave of covid along with another last-minute travel restrictions reipmosed may cause your holiday to be somehow disrupted or even cancelled.

The wait is over. After an incredibly difficult period for all the global tourism sector, the ongoing summer holiday season in the Northern Hemisphere is gaining its long-awaited momentum. What is more, it is already showing enough positive signs to be seen as much better than it was expected just a few months ago.
European tourism, on its part, does everything to make up for the year which was obviously lost – however, businesses and states realize that they need to act in a timely manner, as new waves of the covid-19 are still able to emerge and come unexpectedly. So, the opinion prevails on all levels – as for now, no one really knows if new restrictions will need to be reimposed at any moment.
And while this circumstance encourages travelers to enjoy such a long-awaited vacation abroad right now, it can still present a difficult puzzle for those still planning a vacation. So where is it safest to travel in Europe now, with the least fear that the trip may be interrupted or cancelled at the last minute?
France
The most-visited country in the world – at least, before the pandemic – is making its best efforts to bring people from abroad back to its beautiful mediterranean beaches, cultural heritage sites and even world-famous sweet-scented lavender fields. That’s why the EU Digital COVID Certificate was accepted here far ahead of July and those who are fully vaccinated, recently recovered or have a recent negative PCR test, are allowed into France without any restrictions or the need to undergo isolation upon arrival.
The epidemiological situation in the country is now probably the best it has been in recent year, with restrictions on visiting public places and traveling inside the country already lifted with just a few exceptions. Iceland
Apart from just a few quite hard months, this extremely sparsely populated island nation has so far coped with the pandemic extremely well. From the early spring, all those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are allowed to visit the country without being subject to the measures previously taken – such as testing or quarantine.
Moreover, such rule now applies not only for those vaccinated in the EU/EEA Area but equally to everyone who can provide proof of a full vaccination with a vaccine that has been certified for use by the European Medical Agency as well as requirements defined by the Chief Epidemiologist of Iceland and local regulations. With only a few hundred inhabitants in the island – most of which are living in the capital city and the neighbouring area, it is now not only easy but also extremely safe to travel here. And since we are talking about an island in the far north, a better time than in the summer to visit here is hard to come up with.
Italy
Even if you visited Italy more than once before the pandemic we have no doubt that you have already really missed it. Just like thousands of other tourists from all over the world who can finally come here without any restrictions. Apart from the holders of EU Digital COVID Certificate, such policy applies to broad categories of travelers from different regions of the world.
However, some restrictions still apply for travelling inside the country or attending public events. Therefore, for those, considering visiting Italy in the upcoming weeks it is advisable to check the latest official information on the matter here.
Malta
Being the economy highly dependent on the tourism sector, Malta recently announced itself the first EU nation to achieve so-called “herd immunity”. With one of the lowest number of new weekly COVID cases in the world, the country has long since become an extremely desirable destination for anyone longing for a safe summer holidays.

Spain
Despite the fact that the country borders Portugal, which has recently become a headache again for travelers, with the introduction of new restrictions, the epidemiological situation here remains more than satisfactory. As for now, anyone who has been fully vaccinated can enter the country without additional testing, even if they are arriving from destinations categorized as ‘red’ countries with only South Africa, Brazil and India as the exemptions.
However, even the above-mentioned restrictions should be reviewed in the near future.
