United Airlines (UA) is a major American airline and flag carrier headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It operates to over 350 destinations in 60 countries, including North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Along with its mainline operations, United also offers charter services and operates its own maintenance and crew training facilities. The airline is a member of the Star Alliance, the world‘s largest airline alliance, and is also a member of the International Air Transport Association. United‘s IATA code, UA, is a combination of the codes of its predecessors: United Air Lines and Continental Airlines. In 2010, Continental Airlines merged with United and the combined airline took on the United Airlines name. In 2012, United merged with another major American carrier, Continental Airlines, forming one of the largest airlines in the world.
