When Are You Entitled To Emirates Flight Compensation?
Flight Disruptions
EC Regulation 261/2004 sets out Emirates compensation rights for passengers in the event of flight delays, cancellations or denied boarding due to overbooking.
In the event of flight delays of more than 3 hours, passengers are eligible for an Emirates delay refund.
If you are denied boarding due to overbooking, you are entitled to Emirates flight overbooked compensation.
Emirates airline delay compensation also includes reimbursement of your ticket cost if the delay lasts more than 5 hours.
Schedule Change
Emirates Airlines can change the schedule of your flight. However, they must give you at least 14 days’ notice. If not, you’re entitled to Emirates cancelled flight compensation.
Flight Cancellations
If your Emirates flight is cancelled you can get a refund for the ticket cost. You may also be eligible for an Emirates airlines compensation claim, depending on how long your trip is delayed.
If you must stay overnight as a result of your cancellation, Emirates will provide care and assistance, such as accommodation and meals.
Extraordinary Circumstances
Under EC Regulation 261/2004, airlines aren’t required to pay Emirates late flight compensation for disruptions out of their control. This could mean weather conditions or air traffic control.

FAQ
-
Am I entitled to compensation if my Emirates flight was delayed by over 3 hours?
If your Emirates flight arrived at your final destination more than 3 hours later than scheduled and either departed from or arrived in the EU, you may be eligible for compensation under EC Regulation 261/2004.
However, compensation eligibility depends on the reason for the delay and whether the disruption was within the airline’s control. Delays caused by extraordinary circumstances (such as weather or airport restrictions) are typically not compensable. -
Can I claim compensation if Emirates cancelled my flight without at least 14 days’ notice?
If Emirates cancelled your flight fewer than 14 days before departure and did not offer a suitable alternative that meets timing criteria set by EU regulations, you may be entitled to compensation.
That said, if the cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances or if the replacement flight’s arrival time falls within allowed limits, compensation might not apply. -
Does Emirates cover additional expenses after a flight disruption?
In some cases, if your Emirates flight was significantly delayed or cancelled and you incurred necessary expenses, such as meals, accommodation or transport, you may be able to request reimbursement.
Receipts should be submitted with your claim, and reimbursement depends on the specific situation and airline policy at the time of disruption. -
How much can I claim for a delayed or cancelled Emirates flight under EU law?
Under EC Regulation 261/2004, compensation is calculated based on flight distance and delay duration. The standard amounts are:
- €250 for flights under 1,500 km
- €400 for flights within the EU over 1,500 km or between 1,500–3,500 km outside the EU
- €600 for all other flights
Please note: These amounts may be reduced by 50% if your arrival delay is within certain thresholds (e.g. under 2–4 hours depending on route length).
