A 30-year-old man received a lifetime ban from Spirit Airlines flights after he vaped on a plane, was told he couldn’t do it, went to the bathroom, and vaped so much he set off the flight. He was also seen drinking his own smuggled booze, which is prohibited by the FAA rules. Read more

11,000 staff that work for catering services in the US are considering staging a walk-out. Their work is usually for minimum wage or less, in bad conditions, and with minimal benefits. Read more

Air Italy claims that it’s the first European airline to offer gender-neutral booking options. You can already book an Air Italy flight by selecting M(male), F(female) or X(other) (the last one is for gender-neutral passports). A title menu now includes “Mx,” too. Read more

Heathrow passengers are about to take a breather. New 3D scanners for the baggage, based on the hospital CT scanners, will allow for security to assess cabin with liquids and electronics still inside. It is hoped that all four of Heathrow’s terminals will be equipped with the scanners by 2022. Read more

SAS Scandinavian Airlines is trying to cut emissions by no longer selling duty-free stuff on their flights. This is part of their plan to cut emissions by 25% by 2030 – but it also doesn’t hurt that buying stuff in the air is no longer as popular. Read more

Air France is trying to show its environmental chops by phasing out single-use plastic items. Straws are already out, but the current plan is to do many more bio-friendly replacements. The program should eliminate 100 million plastic cups, 85 million plastic cutlery, and 25 million plastic coffee stirrers by the end of 2019. Read more

British Airways made environmentally-conscious people after they unveiled the plans to deploy Boeing 747s sex domestic flights in August. The giant planes will connect Heathrow to Manchester, Newcastle, and Glasgow on August 25, the 100th anniversary of the airline. Despite the planes being twice as roomy as, say, Airbus A320s, the tickets are extremely expensive. Read more
