The so-called ‘future travel’ coupon option has been around for quite a long time. And almost for its entire history such kind of proposal was there to entice passengers who have found themselves in a situation that requires a quick decision. And while it is widely advised to better refuse such a proposition, the airline is often prepared to offer you a deal which – at least, at the first glance – seems impossible to refuse.

Often desperately trying to stay afloat such airlines will do virtually anything to prevent passengers from taking a refund in cash and stick with the travel coupon option instead. From offering surprisingly irresistible deals such as 120 or even 150 percent of the unused ticket value in vouchers to automatically assigning coupons for everyone and forwarding them to overloaded or even temporarily shut call centers in case passengers will insist on a refund they are legally entitled to.
You should even consider going to court for a refund
Therefore, in such a situation, even if a travel voucher doesn’t look like a best option, it sometimes can seem the only possible solution for those who are not willing to go all the way to court.

Hi! We have a very serious issue here…my girlfriend was about to board the plane from Lisbon, Portugal and her final destination was Copenhagen…We knew that she wasnt allowed to enter Copenhagen but she was allowed to transit through to get to Malmö, Sweden where i would pick her up. The employee from airfrance at the airport stopped her and started to ask her questions about that she wasnt allowed to travel beacuse that her final destination was Copenhagen and my girlfriend tried to explain to her that she was only going there to transit to Sweden. The employee started to ask my girlfriend where she came from, and suddenly telling my girlfriend that she wasnt even a Danish citizen so also a reason why she denied my girlfriend to board and other questions even if my girlfriend many times told her that she wasnt about to stay in Denmark but only transit to Sweden. My girlfriend even showed her the invitation letter showing that she was going to transit. We contacted the Danish police and they told us that there was nothing wrong made by my girlfriend and we also contacted the Danish embassy in Lisbon and the woman at the embassy made my girlfriend a declaration with a stamp showing that what my girlfriend was doing was completely correct and that she had all her documents that she needed for the trip and that there was no right for her to be denied and even writing down links to website showing what the rules are. We have been in contact with the customer care on airfrance and they told us that the final desicion was made and that there was nothing that they can do to help us which we are very shocked about, the customer care even sent us the rules that was so old that they were probably a month old. So it seems like this woman at the airport was very bad informed about the rules or we dont know else what the cause was. The rules they showed us was probably for the end of June and we even provided links showing that transit for my girlfriend was totally legal. Costumer service at airfrance later told us that my girlfriend has to go to the airport to try and find this employee that denied her boarding and get back to the customer service and tell them the exact reason why she got denied to board the plane, and we wonder why does she need to do that? why cant airfrance contact the employee themselves and find out the exact reason for the deny of my girlfriend boarding the plane? We are so sad and mad of what have happened that we are about to put this into the news and even go to court of what have happened.
